2009 Vintage

2009 Estate Blend

60% Syrah, 19% Grenache, 9% Tempranillo, 8% Zinfandel, 4% Mourvedre
Aged for 20 months in 38% new French oak
Bottle Date: July 2011 / Release Date: Fall 2011

Our 2009 Estate Blend is a patchwork of different vineyard blocks and soil types on our Paderewski Vineyard. Predominantly Syrah combined with almost all the other red varieties we have on the estate, this wine gives a sweeping glimpse of the vineyard as a whole alongside all of our innovative and site-specific winemaking practices. Almost Bordelaise in character, this wine expresses savory and refined fruit character: dried leather, red cherry, tobacco, smoked game and brown spice. The five different varieties form a cohesive, expressive wine with great texture, length and longevity in bottle. Drink now or with up to 15 years cellar age. 1,368 cases produced. RR 92pts; IWC 91pts

2009 Sensibility

75% Grenache, 21% Mourvedre, 4% Syrah
Aged in 23% months in 30% new French oak
Bottle Date: July 2011 / Release Date: Fall 2011

Grenache took the leading role in the 2009 Sensibility due to our desire to craft a nuanced wine that dances a little lighter on its toes. Its nose delivers layers of character and subtlety which echo through its balanced and finessed palate - violets, lavender, citrus essence, raspberry, dried cranberry, crushed limestone. Pinot-lovers watch out! Have you ever seen west Paso be so feminine? Drink now or with 5 to 10 years cellar age. 288 cases produced. RR 93pts; IWC 92pts

2009 Zinfandel

94% Zinfandel, 6% Mourvedre
Aged for 20 months in 30% new French oak
Bottle Date: April 2011 / Release Date: Fall 2011

Our 2009 Zinfandel possesses all the delicious, bold American-ness of the variety but slightly refined as if dressed up for a black-tie event. We added a small amount of Mourvedre (6%) to this single block of Primitivo clone 3 Zinfandel to lengthen the mid palate and extend its palate with fine-grained tannins. High-toned red fruits, dried coastal brush and white pepper lend way to a palate packed with fruit, vanilla spice and hint of savory meat. This finely structured Zinfandel lingers on the finish – don’t be afraid to serve it to your old world wine-loving friends! Drink now or with 5 to 8 years cellar age. 209 cases produced. WA 94pts; WS 93pts; RR 94pts; IWC 92pts

2009 Veracity

36% Grenache, 32% Syrah, 32% Mourvedre
Aged for 23 months in 23% new French oak
Bottle Date: April 2011 / Release Date: Fall 2011

Elegant yet approachable, the 2009 Veracity will charm the Rhone fanatic as well as the curious newcomers. It is a pure and seamless ‘GSM’ blend with almost equal parts Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre that shows the brilliance and finesse of Rhone grapes from our Paderewski Vineyard. This wine possesses bright, aromatic and mouth-watering tangerine citrus notes that pop out of the glass and linger through the finish – most likely a product of its Grenache component. In addition, hints of rose petals, dried brush, red raspberry and vanilla are just a few more elements that combine in this velvety-textured Rhone drink. Drink now or with 5 to 10 years cellar age. 373 cases produced. WA 92pts; WS 93pts; RR 94pts; IWC 93pts

The 2009 Authenticity with 64% Syrah and 36% Mourvedre is an intensely complex, chewy and textured wine attests to how serious Mourvedre can be. 2009 Block B

100% Syrah
Aged for 23 months in 43% new French oak barrels and puncheons
Bottle Date: July 2011/Release Date: Spring 2012

Aged for 23 months in French oak barrels and puncheons (43% new)
The 2009 Block B is all about minerality and texture. Not only is this wine made from grapes grown exclusively on one 6.5 acre parcel on the Paderewski Vineyard, it is actually a compilation of only the finest barrels made from many different harvest picks from this parcel. It’s super limited in production and always will be. Aromas evolve as air hits the glass - dried herbs, sage, dark chocolate, black cherry and ocean air on the nose lead to crushed limestone, black olives and bing cherry on the palate. Rich in texture and balanced by a line of nice acidity, this wine is a baby and will greatly benefit from cellaring – the longer you can wait the better. Estimated cellar age: 15+ years. 182 cases made. WA 94-96pts (barrel sample); WS 91pts; RR 96pts; IWC 92pts

Although predominantly Syrah in percentage, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre and Grenache do not take a back-seat in the 2009 Ingenuity. Once sniff takes you directly to a delicious Rhone experience – sun-drenched bay leaves, warm lavender, raspberry coulis - all framed by vanilla bean and brown spices. Its palate is astoundingly bright with fruit and acidity, ripe red cherry and blackberry flavors crescendo mid-palate. Tannins are velvety and the finish lingers with subtle hints of licorice, tobacco and brown tea leaves. Estimated cellar age: 10+ years. 751 cases made. WA 93-95pts (barrel sample); WS 92pts; RR 95pts; IWC 93pts
