2013 Vintage

2013 Rosé

Catapult and Paderewski Vineyards, Paso Robles
42% Syrah | 28% Grenache | 18% Mourvèdre | 12% Cinsault
450 cases produced

Riedel glass and a croquet match or horseshoes with a red solo cup, Epoch’s 2013 Rosé is for pure enjoyment and relaxation. A nod to Bandol and the south of France for inspiration, our Rosé is made with the intent of being a light, crisp and refreshingly textured wine. Produced from a mixture of whole cluster pressed Syrah and Cinsault along with saignee juice from our Grenache and Mourvèdre, we ferment and treat these red grapes as if they are white. Think citrus blossoms, strawberry-rhubarb purée and lime and you are on your way to that happy place! - Jordan Fiorentini, Winemaker

2013 White

Catapult and Paderewski Vineyards, Paso Robles
52% Grenache Blanc | 39% Viognier | 9% Roussanne
25% fermented and aged in concrete tanks | 42% fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels | 33% fermented and aged in stainless steel barrels
604 cases produced

Thirst-quenching, rock licking, ambrosia in a bottle - a deliciously serious twist on white Rhone varieties.  We have officially geeked out and done many different fun winemaking techniques on this white - from concrete fermentation on Grenache Blanc to skin contact on the Viognier.  The result is a wine with great minerality and acidity (thank you Grenache Blanc) with mouth-coating stone fruit and ginger spice elements courtesy of a nice wallop of Viognier.  This wine should age beautifully, if you're willing to wait that long! - Jordan Fiorentini, Winemaker

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI
The 2013 Authenticity makes you feel like you can smell color.  Having grown out of her initial baby fat and approaching teenhood in wine years, she is showing her core characteristics of red and black berry fruits, vivacious floral notes, alongside chalky minerality and tannins. Both candied and fresh violets jump out of the glass, complexed by grilled herbs, sweet leather and black cherry.  So good right now it will be hard to wait, but just imagine what she will become!

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI:
A jaw-dropping beauty.   A sensation of purity, balance and tremendous strength.  The 2013 Block B is super muscular and jam-packed with structure, yet completely round and balanced on the palate. Although still just a bébé, this child is bred from some fine Syrah DNA and is already showing astounding integration.  He shows no hard edges, yet is loaded with texture - density, viscosity, yes, and then some.  Block B is a drink for the twilight hours and later into the eve.

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI
The 2013 Creativity defines purity.  Her DNA is simple - 100% Mourvèdre from one single harvest pick - but she carries the complexity of a multi-variety blend.  A complete wine, balanced and focused, she effortlessly resides at the intersection of the senses, where savory and earthy flavors collide with sweet red fruits and white pepper.  From first sip, she leads you on the emotional journey of the indefinable art in wine.  Starting with fermentation in concrete though èlevage in barrel to bottling, this wine has never swayed from her core personality and will show you how Mourvédre can hold her own next to Bordeauxs, GSMs, and Pinots alike.

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI
Epoch’s 2013 Estate Blend has a lot to tell. He is the most politically correct child in the bunch, including almost every red variety grown on Epoch ground (with even a healthy dose of Zinfandel!). In addition, the individual barrel lots that make up his DNA are combinations of almost every vessel type we use at Epoch – concrete, oak puncheon, one-ton t-bins and stainless steel tanks. There’s a lot going on, and the wine reflects this with its mixture of red fruits, tobacco, leather, earth, vanilla, lavender, bright acidity and mouthwatering texture weaving in an out of each other. In his youth, you see all his different sides, but with time they will meld into one unique whole.

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI
The 2013 Ingenuity is a poster child for our beloved GSM + Petite Syrah blend.  As usual, neither too feminine nor too masculine in nature, Ingenuity does not play by the wine rule book.  So much juicy red Grenache fruit explodes on the front to mid palate, with Syrah giving palatial depth and velvety tannins.  Petite Sirah accentuates the texture, and Mourvèdre binds the whole package together and grounds the wine in subtle earthy tones.  Exuberantly Paso yet sublimely restrained. Total yum!

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI
Like a beautiful blonde you think you’ve got pegged as superficial from first contact, the 2013 Sensibility seems to be mostly laden with voluptuous berry fruits residing on the front palate. With time, however, this seemingly textbook American chic will continue to surprise you with her off-the-beaten-track intelligence, complex personality and down-to-earthiness. As you wait for the first sip to hit the back of your throat, you realize you’ve judged this “pretty” girl wrong, her beauty lies in how effortlessly she destroys all “simple Grenache” stereotypes and straddles both new and old world wine flavors and sensations in one lingering sip.

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI
The lone wolf, Epoch’s Tempranillo is so distinctly different from all our other wines in aroma, flavor and most obviously tannin structure.  Big and juicy red plum and pomegranate fruits lead the entry as cinnamon and oak spice tumble around the palate, intensified by a cascade of chewy, multi-faceted tannins that fold from front to back.  This wine resides at the intersection of rustic and refined and once again has earned his spurs to be deemed our Spanish cowboy.

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI
Blended elegance. Like Scarlett Johansson in a straight jacket, the 2013 Veracity is barely revealing her obvious yet masked potential. If ever people say Grenache is not a serious grape, make them try this wine! Cellaring and decanting is not just for beefy Syrahs and Cabernets; with its bright acid backbone and vibrant peppery structure, the newest Veracity vintage is begging for patience. Earthy, foresty Mourvèdre grounds the boisterous fruit and adds weight and cohesion to the mouthwatering texture and chalky rock minerality.

MY BIO BY WINEMAKER JORDAN FIORENTINI
He didn’t go to prep school nor did any of his relatives go to college. He’s the first college grad of his family and from an Ivy League school no less. The 2013 Zinfandel is an inspirational story – where he’s from (the wrong side of the tracks), where he is now and his potential for the future. With no hoity-toity shoes to fill, he is defining what it means to be a Zinfandel and setting a new bar for what Zins can be – boisterous, charismatic and just down right irresistible aromatically, yet complex, layered and crying for cellar age on the palate. Who knows, he might be seen at dinner in the White House one day. He is a true example of the American Dream.
